How Wireless Charging Works for smartphones | Circuit Diagram

Hello, Electronics Lovers, in this tutorial I will explain the mechanism of Wireless Charging system for Smartphones and other portable devices. Engineers and Researchers are working day and night to bring something new cool for the betterment of this world. Due to continuous and rapid advancement in technology, now we are able to charge our portable devices such as Smartphone, Tablet, and smartwatch e.t.c without using a wire.
Now Electronic Engineers are more focusing on the wireless domain as compared to wire one. As we can see that how old telephony system that was based on the wire has been replaced by Cell Phone system. Essentially, to charge our phone we need a charger that converts Ac voltage to a required DC voltage. Here, we have a good news for every single user of cell phones that they will now charge their latest and advanced smartphones wirelessly without using wire and fixed charger.

Wireless Mobile Charging System

Right now Wireless Charging system is a hot and interesting topic for researchers all around the globe. This system will allow the users to just use a charging pad or Wireless charging pad to charge their phone without using a cable or any necessary wires. If you want to charge your smartphone wirelessly, then you need to put your cell phone in a simple way on the wireless charging pad, After successful placement, a message will pop on your mobile screen that “wireless charging started”.

A secondary and Primary winding of the transformer is the heart of wireless charging system, researchers are working more and more on the concept of the advanced power transformer. We need a high-Frequency transformer and rectifier to convert our Mains input voltage 230V AC to 12 V DC. Output Dc voltage of the system will detach to Air as a wirelessly after rectification.

The essential theme of this mechanism is as when a charging or primary coil met with the secondary coil in a reasonable range then it will transmit power wirelessly through mutual induction from its primary coil to secondary coil.  Output 12 V DC will give to Rectifier circuit as you can see in the circuit diagram, rectifier will step down a12 V DC to 5V DC. Finally, 5V DC at that point is ready to detach power wirelessly into the air to the charge a cell phone.

Block Diagram for Wireless Mobile Charging System:

As we look up into the circuit diagram, at the starting point we have our normal plugin for AC voltage which is 230V (Asia) or 120V (Europe). After that we have a Rectifier circuit, the main function of this rectifier is to convert the incoming AC voltage to a fixed steady 12v DC voltage. As we move further there is a unit of Dc to Ac inverter which will convert back a 12v DC to a 12V AC. The output of the inverter is connected to a primary winding of the high-frequency transformer, here an AC voltage is ready for the concept of Power transmission wirelessly.
The secondary coil will receive a power wirelessly from the Primary coil by using Air as a medium. As we know that Every smartphone required a constant DC voltage as an input for charging purposes, at the end, they have used another Rectifier to filter out and convert those AC signals into fixed and steady 5 V DC.
Wireless charging pad will work externally like a power transmitter while receiving station must be embedded inside a phone.
